Chrissi Rawak joined Higher Ed Athletics to talk about leading the Blue Hens and begins the conversation with an institutional profile. Rawak had several different roles in college athletics and shares what made her decide to pursue an AD position. Rawak talks about the decision to create a chief of staff position at Delaware and advice for what other athletic directors might want to consider if they are thinking about creating a chief of staff role after doing some research of her own.

The conversation then turns to the role of talent management and professional development of her staff and why investing in them is so critical to the success of the department. Rawak knew it was incredibly important to integrate with the university and explains how and why the athletic department decided to create an internship program with interns each semester that goes towards their degree. I then ask Chrissi what it takes to be a successful fundraiser and how someone without fundraising experience, or nervous to make the ask, can do to improve (the worst thing that can happen is they say "No"). Keeping with the tactical advice in this episode, I asked Rawak her philosophy on hiring and evaluating head coaches and she shares her thoughts on internal promotions and why she understands coaches moving for other positions is sometimes okay.

The conversation ends with a discussion on the athletic department being responsible for oversight of recreation and club sports at Delaware, and whether that might be a trend in the future at other institutions. Rawak will become the sixth director of Athletics at Delaware since the position was established in 1940. The director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services reports directly to the president and is a member of the University's senior staff. University Of Delaware Athletics Division A vibrant recreation services department sponsors over 30 club sports and over 30 intramural programs. Oravitz may not have the title of athletic director on his resume, but he is a proven leader with over 30 years of experience in government, nonprofit and educational sectors. He also has long relationships with many of the loyal supporters of Blue Hen athletics as well as with some of the most influential people who support them. And in his hands-on role with the football team he knows the personal side of the student-athletes as well as anyone in the athletic department. The women's basketball team went undefeated in CAA play in the 2011–2012 and 2012–2013 seasons under head coach Tina Martin and All-American Elena Delle Donne. The 2011–2012 team finished went 31–2 and undefeated in the CAA conference (18–0) to win the conference championship. This win over UALR was the first by a Delaware women's team in NCAA tournament history.

The 2012–2013 team finished 32–4 overall, ranked #15 in the final AP poll. This senior class, which includes Chelsea Craig and Jaquetta May, won more games than any senior class in Delaware women's basketball history, and won two CAA Conference Championships. The women's basketball program at UD made $2,522,440 in revenue and spent $2,522,440 in expenses. On the positive side, this means the program didn't lose any money - and that's not something every college sports program can claim.

Being a DelVal student-athlete means more than just playing the game. It means working hard, contributing to a team and displaying perseverance, discipline, motivation and a desire to succeed. DelVal student-athletes compete in the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Conference, with 22 intercollegiate sports and many intramural programs. This conference has one of the strongest, most competitive schedules in the country. As a result, DelVal athletics receive great media coverage as well as support from diehard fans.

There are 17 players on the UD women's volleyball team, and they are led by one head coach and 3 assistant coaches. In terms of financials, the UD men's tennis program paid out $359,135 in expenses and made $359,135 in total revenue. With an excellent academic progress rate of 997, the team has shown that they take there time in the classroom seriously. UD landed the #28 spot in our Best Colleges for Division I Men's Baseball out of the 271 colleges and universities that were included in the analysis. Division 1 athletic directors have to have a firm understanding of their school, its students, the athletes, coaches, donors and alumni. But at the University of Delaware, the athletic director must also understand the people who reside up and down the First State (i.e. above and below the canal) because they are the fan base of the UD athletic teams. NCSA offers student high school athletes the resources and info they need to enhance their odds of being recruited by a Women's Tennis program, whether it is at University of Delaware or another school. Since 2000, NCSA has been connecting athletes and coaches which is a critical part of the recruiting process. This year on it's own there are Women's Tennis student athletes utilizing the NCSA technology, network and scouting experts to get their highlights in front of 2014 coaches at 1185 colleges Women's Tennis programs all over the country.

The 18-player women's softball team at UD is kept in shape by one head coach and 2 assistant coaches. With an excellent academic progress rate of 981, the team has shown that they take there time in the classroom seriously. The 38 players of the UD women's lacrosse team are led by a head coach and 3 assistant coaches. Our Best Colleges for Division I Men's Football] ranking placed UD# 20 out of the 117 schools in its division. The Delaware First campaign is an attempt at bringing long needed changes to the university's athletic facilities. These include, revamping Delaware Stadium to a resemble a more modern fit, and the creation of the Whitney Athletic Center, a building serving as a hub for student athletes in their training and academic endeavors. This initiative shows that the administration cares about Delaware Athletics and is willing to invest a lot of time and money to try to improve the sports culture. Culture is something that you cannot build very easily, but this campaign is a great step towards something special. As a student at the University of Michigan, Rawak was a member of the varsity swim team and student government president before earning her bachelor's degree in sports management and communications in 1992.

After graduation, she joined the athletics department as an assistant swim coach. The mission of the Delaware Tech Athletic Department is to provide a comprehensive support program for all student-athletes that promotes academic success, a positive athletic experience, and overall personal growth. The women's volleyball program at UD made $1,509,239 in revenue and spent $1,509,239 in expenses. There are 8 players on the UD women's tennis team, and they are led by one head coach and 2 assistant coaches.

With an excellent academic progress rate of 1000, the team has shown that they take there time in the classroom seriously. The women's softball program at UD made $1,100,120 in revenue and spend $1,100,120 in expenses. In College Factual's most recent Best Colleges for Division I Men's Soccer analysis, UD ranked #34 out of 188 colleges and universities. The 25-member women's cross country team at UD is kept in shape by one head coach and one assistant coach. The head coaches of UD sports are supported by 25 assistant coaches of women's teams and 24 assistant coaches of men's teams. The assistant coaches for women's teams make an average of $74,727 while the ones for men's team make about $109,869 a year. Note, the individual salary of coaches is often dependent on the team they coach.

For the athletes who make up almost one-third of the Wesley student population, their history will be recorded in other places. The athletics department website reflects the Spring 2021 seasons, with no games showing beyond this year. The NCAA still has the program listed as a Division III member, but that will disappear at the end of June, too.

"It's been an honor and a privilege to serve on the Delaware baseball coaching staff for the last 28 years," Sherman said in a press release. "I will cherish all of the memories I've made here as a player, assistant coach and head coach. There are so many people to thank including Bob Hannah, all of my assistant coaches, especially long-time assistant Dan Hammer, our administration, all of my current and former players, and my family. These student athletes created a small pod of safe fellow athletes to interact with. These kids wisely chose to spend time with teammates that are already around on a daily basis.

This gathering sounds like it is a smaller group than their team practices. Would be interested in knowing what activities the athletic department has put together for athletes to interact with one another safely outside of practice. Governor Carney issued theTenth Revision to the 27th Modification of the State of Emergency Declarationwhich addressed face coverings for interscholastic sports. The revision provides guidance on the use of face coverings for DIAA spring sports during competition in non-high-risk sports.The updated guidance takes effect Wednesday, April 28 at 8am. Per the guidance, DIAA spring sport student athletes must wear face coverings except when actively engaged in practice or game play while on the field.

Face coverings should be worn on the sidelines and all other times when athletes are not engaged in active play. A combination of women's and men's sports, our student-athletes mainly compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference consisting of 8 Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Southeastern and the Mid-Atlantic United States. DSU also competes with non-conference schools from across the nation.

The UD men's tennis team is made up of 12 players who, in turn, are trained and guided by a head coach and 2 assistant coaches. The 76 players of the UD women's rowing team are led by a head coach and 2 assistant coaches. The team has an excellent academic progress rate of proof that they don't ignore the importance of getting a good education.

In terms of financials, the UD women's indoor track program paid out $577,145 in expenses and made $577,145 in total revenue. It's unfortunate that it didn't make any money, but, then again, it didn't lose any money either. The 11 players of the UD women's golf team are led by a head coach and 2 assistant coaches. The men's golf program at UD made $346,039 in revenue and spent $346,039 in expenses.

In a letter to the university community, DSU president Tony Allen announced Athletic Director Scott Gines is retiring and the school's men's and women's basketball coaches will not return. All student athletes are required to have a current physical on file prior to the start of Fall athletics. These completed forms should be turned in to Athletic Trainer Kathleen Kenney by Monday, August 9, 2021.

So it has been a disappointing six years watching two people enter and quickly leave the athletic department's highest office, especially following the tenure of Edgar Johnson, who served as athletic director for 25 years. What was most different about Johnson compared to his successors is that he took the position already bleeding Blue and Gold. Raised in Delaware, he was a student-athlete, coach and is still a faculty member at UD.

When the athletics and recreation programs team up on a college campus, a powerful foundation for a holistic student experience is created. 19 swimming and diving student-athletes at the University of Delaware have been suspended by the university's athletics department for violating COVID-19 protocols established by the school, according to a report from WBOC-TV. In 1991, he was appointed athletic business manager and was responsible for all of the department's fiscal activities, while also serving as the liaison with outside booster and support groups. That's among 230 public schools in statistics compiled by USA Today. Delaware County Community College has a strong athletic tradition producing many excellent student-athletes.

We provide a competitive arena where our student-athletes can display their talents, enhance their physical wellness and grow socially. As a student, you may compete in any of our seven intercollegiate sports teams. The College is a Division 3 member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in Region XIX of the National Junior College Athletic Association . In terms of financials, the UD women's tennis program paid out $642,198 in expenses and made $642,198 in total revenue. There are 9 players on the UD men's golf team, and they are led by one head coach and 3 assistant coaches.

On the money side of things, the UD women's field hockey program brought home $1,064,483 in revenue and paid out $1,064,483 in total expenses. Even though this means that the program didn't make any money, at least it wasn't in the red. We will be having our "Meet the Coaches Night" at Laurel High School on Monday, August 9th at 6 pm for our Fall student/athletes. If you are interested in playing Football, Field Hockey, Boys' Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, or Cheerleading, come out and meet your coach. The coaches will be going over expectations, guidelines, try-out/practice procedures and times for the upcoming season.

It is very important that you have a completed updated physical on file with our athletic trainer, as you can't participate in any try-out or practice until all completed paperwork has been signed off on. Delawarewelcomed its swimmers & divers back to campus for voluntary conditioning workouts on June 10th. Last season, the Delaware women finished 5th out of 7 teams at the CAA Championships, while the Delaware men finished 5th out of 5 teams. The school has not released a swimming & diving schedule nor any specific plans for their path forward in winter season athletics like swimming & diving, though their football team is not playing this fall.
